After using HD650 headphones for several years, I really didn't know what I was missing. Worth the money to replace the headband and ear pads. Made them like new except for the lack of a clip when they were new. worth your money. Also, I would advise to only use Sennheiser OEM models. I have seen many problems with spare parts of third-party providers (funny smells of new pads and different sound properties that like other headphones sound when no Sennheiser pads are used). I would really like to replace these pads last year. Now they are much more comfortable to wear. If you don't know how to replace them, there are many tutorials on YouTube. Basically, they snap in a few places under the ear foam between the ear cups and the headphone speakers. Just apply a little pressure and give them a slight tug to make sure they're hooked and you're good to go.
