Review on Versatile EZDIY-FAB 5.25 inch USB 3.0 Multi-Card Reader with USB Charging Port - 6-Slot Card Reader, 4X USB 2.0, 1x eSATA | Ideal for Convenient File Transfer, USB-Charging & More! by Jeremy Reddick

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Small but rugged enough, installs well, works without custom drivers(!)

This unit replaces one of the ubiquitous '5.25' Media Dashboard' multifunction front panel units that I think I have installed assembled computer. After only 1.5 years, the SD card stopped working and the USB ports never worked. Since day one, this device has received a Windows warning that the USB host is incompatible and requires a driver update, which never happened. So when I couldn't load photos from my DSLR's SD card this week, it's time to get a new card reader. I've looked at Revain and Tom's Hardware, B&H Photo a lot. Most card readers are either USB 2 or have an even number of bad to good ratings. This was based on USB 3 and mostly had good reviews, so I got a German USB 3 PCIe card (Inateck) since my mobile device only has a front USB3 port and off we went. Installation went well. The EZDIY block was a little tight in my Corsair case but ok and felt solid enough to be snug. I've seen better 4-pin Molex power connectors (on the male side) but they work and hopefully never get disconnected again. It plugs tightly into my cellphone's USB3 port (the front panel is connected to a new PCIe card so the cables were cleaner), and the USB2 cables plugged into my cellphone's two remaining USB2 ports ( ASUS ROG B350-F ). Booted, everything works without problems, no new drivers are needed. The 2.4A USB charging port charges my iPhoneXS quickly. The SD card works perfectly, there are no delays when connecting/disconnecting the card. I really wish there was a little more "click" to insert the SD card when it's fully inserted, so what can I say. But he reads and writes well. So for now I'm happy. If there are any problems, I will update this review.
