The future of mobile devices?

There's a lot to be said for the Surface Duo. I received mine on day one and have used it as my only mobile device ever since. I also had the opportunity to try cell phone providers in Europe and had no problems. I'll start this review with the cons, although it seems to me that the Surface Duo has many more pros and some polarizing cons. NEGATIVES: -Missing NFC. Personally, this didn't bother me as I only have one debit card that I use regularly and taking my wallet out of my pocket is as easy as my phone. And smart watches are more convenient than any other. But if you rely on NFC, maybe many different cards, in your daily life and don't have or don't have a smartwatch, then this might not be for you. - Lack of wireless charging. Also something that personally didn't bother me as wireless charging creates more heat in your device and can decrease battery life so I've avoided it even on my previous devices. But if you're invested and have a dozen wireless chargers at home like I have USB cables, then again this might not be for you. - Just a camera. I would wish for a few cameras like a wide-angle lens in the second generation. However, I'm hoping they don't put them on the back, just add more cameras inside, as it allows you to have a better camera for front and back pics/video, and protect the cameras. POSITIVES: - Build quality. Feel wise, this thing is absolutely amazing. It's clean, subtle and perfectly balanced as everything should be. There's been a lot of talk about the hinge, and for good reason, the hinge experts at Microsoft's Surface division have perfected their art, and it truly looks like a Surface device. It's also nice to have a foldable phone that doesn't get damaged if I touch it with my fingernail. The size. Its size is a really good balance between being portable and pocketable. It's wider than a regular phone but easily fits in all my pockets. Wider screens are much easier to use both horizontally and vertically than the 21:9 used on most smaller screens. In fact, I'm used to using Android in a larger format, to the point where now when I pick up someone else's phone, that other phone feels really compressed. Software. When it comes to software, it's a lot more polished than pre-launch reviewers make it seem. The new gestures will take a while to get used to, but if you're already using the Microsoft Launcher on your Android phone, you should be able to get used to it fairly quickly. And to be honest, I've had very few bugs that weren't the usual little glitches I find on any Android phone. - camera. I now know I gave the camera as a negative, but placing the camera inside protects it and keeps the outside flat and clean. I also think it makes more sense than putting cameras on all sides because it doesn't add anything to the user experience. You still have to open it to take a picture, and you're only using one of the screens as a viewfinder. So fully rotating the other screen is almost the same as opening on both screens. The quality of the camera is also much better than I thought. I was expecting the camera to be almost useless, but it's competent at taking photos. It's far from the best camera in a phone, but I'd say it's the best front-facing camera I've seen. You can see from the photos I uploaded they are pretty clean. The typing feel on the Surface Duo is really good. I wrote most of this review of my duo in MS Word before copying and pasting it here. I could easily type faster on the Surface Duo than on any smartphone I've used in the past. General usability. I don't have to switch to my computer as often as I did with my old phone because I can get more done with the Duo. If I've ever had to work with two sources in the past, I've always gone to my desktop or tablet to do the actual work. But now I can use Surface Duo to use both sources at the same time and copy/paste information between them. I can click links in messaging apps and they open on another screen so I don't lose the conversation. I can search for information during a video chat conversation. It makes both work and play easier and cleaner. Now I can also read the news while checking the facts on another screen, all from a small device in my pocket. CONCLUSION: It's pricey, but I feel the Surface Duo offers something more and something better compared to other devices in this price range. While I wouldn't recommend this to everyone, if you're looking for a new mobile device, you've got money to spend, and the idea of a dual-screen pocketable really appeals to you, the Microsoft Surface Duo is incredibly well-made. I hope the Surface Duo stays strong in the Microsoft Surface lineup for years to come.
