The lamp base did not fit.
Lamp base varies from brand to brand of string lights. It was not possible to pull working lightbulbs out of factory sockets and insert them into defective lamp sockets. The pins of the new lamps were too fragile to bend back into the new sockets. They broke when bent to fit over the original base of the strand.
