I doubted they would really reduce static but they do! I dried the knit sweater with balls of yarn and no static electricity. I didn't notice any reduction in drying time, but the clothes had fewer wrinkles. Yarn balls are odorless. The package I bought contained a small bottle of lavender essential oil. I put a few drops in the ball while drying with the sheets and really didn't notice any smell. I've tried a few times. The first time I added lavender after the sheets were dry I used the low setting for 10-15 minutes. The second time I added lavender at the beginning of the drying cycle, nothing.
