Review on Odeums Outdoor Lantern Exterior Lighting by Connie Lewis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Attractive lights for the price (see details). Recommended

At around $35 each, the Odeums Outdoor Wall Light (2-pack) is definitely a bargain. However, for me this was a set to replace my old bronze (fuu) fixings on the front doors. I have already replaced the street lamps and gable lamps with similar ones, rectangular, black (with flat clear glass). The Odeums lanterns were the perfect complement, scaled down to fit in the front door. The lamps were originally sent to me in the wrong color (oiled bronze, not black) but the exchange went smoothly. Simply inspect your item upon receipt. The lanterns arrived in a small box encased in a styrofoam block and the bulbs themselves were in plastic bags. Each light is attached to its own mounting plate, so you need to unscrew 4 screws with rubber washers. From there you attach the mounting plate to your junction box, connect ground to the plate, connect load/neutral/earth, and then reattach the bracket to the mounting plate. Wire nuts are included, but you'll need yellow or red ones if you have too many wires tied together. In fact, I would recommend using weatherproof wire nuts (not included). More expensive fittings often have a rubber or neoprene seal, but such weather protection doesn't exist. I recommend cutting your own gasket out of sheet rubber (or neoprene) if that's important to you. For me the installation was more difficult because. There were no boxes with original closures. I improvised the edit but it took a bit of time. If this were a "typical" installation, you should take about 10 minutes to remove the old mount and install the new one (each). This is quicker/easier if you have a second person hold the bracket while you attach the wire nuts and mounting screws (I did this myself). Received from Revain (shown in photos). I think Edison or Edison style LED bulbs are the right type to pair with these lights. I think the combo looks really good. If I had to do it again I might see if I could get similar light output from a T10 shaped bulb instead. Overall I think the fittings are great - for the price. Obviously, if you're willing to pay more, you'll get better materials and workmanship. However, on my indoor porch, where the light will be exposed to fogging and occasional horizontal rain, I'm fairly confident in the long-term durability of the purchase. recommended
