Review on πŸ”” CYBERNOVA Upgraded WiFi USB Siren Alarm with Temperature & Humidity Sensor: Alexa and Google Home Compatible by Allen Tchida

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Looking for an application: wiring issue fixed, now what?

Fascinating concept: A small, intelligently switched alarm siren or a permanently installed loudspeaker to bridge the gap between intelligent loudspeaker and mobile device. Simply stick it on the wall and activate it for specific events. Maybe a beep when an outdoor camera detects movement at the front door. Kitchen clock. And since it can monitor temperature and humidity, it sends a ping when the temperature in the child's room rises. Or flash incoming calls and messages for people with hearing impairments. All those little things. The first bubble burst when I realized the USB port was on the side. It would be another ugly cable coming from the USB charger. There's a battery compartment on the back, but who wants to change batteries? Not me. I tested it quickly and then decided that the kitchen would be the ideal place to install it. There is a plug to cover the smoke alarm wiring socket. Smoke alarms near a cooking area are usually never a good idea unless you hate your neighbors. So I pulled it away. The small device comes with an adhesive strip. Not the best choice for mural painting. A tiny hole for a thinner screw works vertically instead of upside down on the ceiling. Simple solution: drill holes in the back panel for the wire feed and screw them to the front panel. I've had one with a hole in the middle in my litter box ever since the house was blessed with cable TV. I decided to solder directly to the battery contacts and not use any backup options. The small USB charger sits on the back, crimped and insulated from the wires inside the light box (the plastic casing that hides the electrical connector for the dome light). Works like a charm, took about an hour. BUT! As I started playing around with the settings to give this thing some purpose, I realized it really wasn't what I wanted. It has a slider to set the temperature and humidity range, but my device only alarms itself and there are no others in the house. Smart Home is the only app that sets an alarm, but I don't use Smart Home on my phone. Disturbing, but in the most annoying way: 18 preset sounds to choose from and I couldn't find any acceptable ones. Horns, dogs barking, car alarms honking, horrible siren sound and other attacks. And there is no option to use your own sounds. Serious? It's 2020 and there's no way to download a small mp3 or connect it to a computer via USB just to drag the sound file into a folder? That's when I realized I'd just spent over an hour installing something on the kitchen ceiling that I'd probably only oversee for myself. The smart alarm has now been moved to the garage. I think it makes sense to have it there, although I wish it was bigger and better. Dedicated temperature sensors are much more powerful and some even interact with the HVAC system. For a better impression I am attaching some photos. I hope this helps with the decision. BENEFITS - Can be placed anywhere with USB or battery power - Alerts when temperature or humidity is out of range. Minuses - there is no easy way to make a permanent connection - there is no ceiling mount. Option - limited range of (terrible) alarm tones - speakers not very clear or powerful - doesn't interact with other smart devices - no flash or bright visual alarm

If you expect Alexa integration look elsewhere; if you don’t care then this is great.
