more than not, but not perfect

I used to be a coffee snob so I've used a lot of home appliances over the years. and I've matured over the years realizing that the "perfect" mug is like the Holy Grail - very elusive and expensive. However, I try to use my experience to get the best possible cup out of comparatively cheap coffee makers. I avoided capsule machines for years until I gave up. I got a Nespresso Latte machine about 15 years ago and when it broke about 7 years later I got a Nespresso Lattissima Touch and it was a certified filter coffee machine (plus an Aeropress, a French Press and a Pour Over for a change). my workhorse. It really does make a latte with one touch, and with a refillable pod I can load my own espresso. but the water here is awful and kills everything and for various reasons i can't filter it and in the end she took my nespresso although i tried to spice it up by buying different parts. and my dropper maker died around the same time so I started buying replacements. Having avoided capsule machines in the past, I've been very sloppy with Keurig machines - no wonder when you read reviews at all. The best of them say coffee is like cool, dirty water. But I was intrigued to learn that Instant Pot made a machine that used both Nespresso pods and K-cups, and I investigated further. It was obvious that v1 machines weren't worth buying, but when I saw some YouTube reviews showing that the new /bold/ setting raised the temperature, I started to take them seriously, especially since I had a few hundred pods left. When it recently retailed for $60, I bought it and a cappucino maker to replace the one I've been using for years. I've been using their pressure cookers since the first model and trust them to know how to build the heating elements. Their 2-in-1 advertised a pressure of 19 bar for espresso, and while the brewing temperature wasn't listed, the in-cup temperature suggested it could be quite high. and I can't stand coffee that doesn't burn my tongue. Ok, I've digressed enough so I'll just list the pros and cons after using it for about 3 weeks: Pros: * The temperature in the cup is about 180º (using the /bold/ setting), what enough to satisfy me and me quite demanding. * Huge water tank and lights for low water level and descaling. Coffee is as good or nearly as good as certified drip brew, although not as good as a French Press, Aeropress, or Pour Over, it's faster, easier, and requires less cleanup than those methods. just as good as the Nespresso machines I've had (but see cons). Cons: *** big. It will literally destroy Nespresso plastic capsules 3-5 times out of 10! I actually asked the question here and Instant Pot at least pretended not to understand the question and didn't respond when I asked about it. The fact that I still give it 4 stars shows how versatile and otherwise useful it is. Although Instant Pot doesn't allow this, I plan to try my reusable steel pods later and, although they are much more expensive, try buying disposable aluminum pods. * The lever used to lift the lid feels fragile and seems to require too much force to open and close. especially when he ate and stuffed the plastic capsule. boo-hoo, huh? :) *Used capsule container is ok, but the drip tray is a real pain in the ass. It's difficult to remove and install, has a very thin lid, and is quite difficult to clean. / Guy
