I did a lot of research on weighted blankets before deciding on these because of their smaller size and weight which was best for my 7 year old. The duvet and duvet cover can be machine washed and tumble dried. There are actually 3 pieces in this set: a grayish weighted duvet itself, a zip-up duvet cover with a dinosaur print on one side and a solid green kelly on the other, and a tote bag. It's for the trip. It's just the right size for my tall and lean 7 year old who weighs 49 pounds - it covers him from shoulders to toes. If the blanket was a little bigger I would have had to go for a heavier blanket and I wasn't comfortable with the risk of it being too heavy for him to sleep safely. This concentrates the weight at 5 pounds so most of the weight is actually on his body and not distributed across the bed. I use his regular blanket to keep him warm but put it on as soon as he tries to sleep. He often starts it in the middle of the night, but it really helps calm him down when he falls asleep. We usually lie in bed with him while he falls asleep, and what used to take about an hour as he fidgets and asks questions late at night has become a much shorter process as he instantly skips the squirming portion of his dreamland drift . . Now he asks for his heavy blanket when he's tired and feeling ready for bed. Very happy with it and glad we can get a plain duvet cover as he was starting to think the dinosaur pattern was 'childish' but it still helped us a lot.
