I've used this several times, all just to heat milk, no frothing, and to keep track of the liquid temperature. The highest temp I've been able to get was 141 only once (oddly enough, the only time I've accidentally exceeded it was about 1 inch below the tip). It would be really nice if I could get it to 160. The last time I used it I warmed up the milk and then immediately turned it on 3 more times hoping it would raise the temperature further. The first temperature was 117, the second 122, the third 128, the fourth 121. When everything was ready, a slightly burned skin appeared to have formed at the bottom of the cup, which eventually floated to the top. The directions say to leave it on for 3 minutes between uses, but since I don't use it much due to the temperatures it delivers I didn't care if I broke it. I tried again with a 3 minute break between uses without changing the milk and here are the results: Initial milk temp = 45.7 First run = 124.4 Second run = stop after about 10 seconds, 127, 9 Third run = (waited 3 more minutes) This time it ran a full 3 minutes, 126.1 I may have broken something using it 4 times in a row without waiting between runs, but even the first run wasn't that what I expected. So far this liquid heater seems pretty useless for my expectations.
