Description of 10.3" E-book ONYX BOOX Note 4 1872x1404, E-Ink, package contents: cover, blue

ONYX International has a wealth of experience in developing 10-inch e-readers, so it''s no surprise that the Note 4 comes across as a well-thought-out and user-friendly device. It''s hard to find any significant drawbacks with it - well, except for the price and the lack of an induction touchscreen and Wacom stylus that the Note 5 has (however, the Note 5 costs even more). One of the most important arguments in favor of buying ONYX BOOX Note 4 is the E Ink Mobius Carta screen with a diagonal of 10.3 inches and a pixel density of 227 ppi. Thanks to the plastic backing and optional protective glass, this display is very durable and strong. In addition, it provides a clear and contrasting picture in any lighting conditions: both the features of E Ink Carta technology and the MOON Light 2 backlight, which work without flicker and finely tuned in color temperature and brightness, contribute to this. In addition, among the advantages of the ONYX BOOX Note 4 reader, it should be noted a very high speed of operation (there is a modern processor with 8 cores at 2 GHz), an impressive amount of memory for an e-book (4/64 GB), the presence of a fingerprint scanner, modules Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0, as well as a USB Type-C port with OTG support. Some users will certainly be pleased with the Android 11 operating system with the ability to install applications, including from Google Play, but practice shows that most buyers have enough built-in reading programs, since they are very functional and convenient here. How does ONYX BOOX Note 4 differ from other 10-inch ONYX BOOX readers? You can get a very detailed answer to this question by studying the table below. In our opinion, this format is the most optimal for explaining the differences between those ten-inch ONYX BOOX readers that may be on sale at the time of updating this description in early May 2023. It is worth adding that there are still some small differences between the devices listed in this table. In particular, models of the Tab Ultra series have a unique interface for ONYX BOOX readers: it is as close as possible to the interface of tablets and resembles iPadOS. However, the interface of other models is also quite convenient. In addition, to complete the picture, it must be said that the software of the Note 4 model is better “tailored” to the needs of Russian-speaking users, however, this model does not have the proprietary Notes program for drawing and taking notes (due to the lack of an induction touchscreen and a Wacom stylus).

A great option for this money, one of the best offers.

I used to associate e-books with large remnants with a ridiculous design. But with Onyx Boox, every book is a Thing. And this book is no exception. Only one box with rich packaging suggests that this is a quality product, and not some kind of toy. It's a pleasure to hold and a pleasure to use. Apple from the world of e-books.

Pros
  • Excellent aesthetic qualities. Good materials (frosted glass on the back and metal frame), small thickness, flawless assembly, cool dark blue color. Despite the small thickness, the construction feels rigid. You feel that you are holding a good thing in your hands. The presence of a soft screen backlight with the ability to adjust the color temperature. It does not hit the eyes at all, and therefore you can comfortably read at least all night. The screen resolution is sufficient to display letters clearly. No visible difference from printed text. Literally like a sheet of a book on which the text changes. Availability of Android on board. You can install the usual readers and, with some reservations, surf the Internet. Lives incomparably longer than any tablet with 2-3 smaller batteries. Combining reading with traveling on the Internet for 4-5 hours a day, you can count on a week of work. Folio cover with magnetic fastening included. I didn’t really like its appearance (imitation of gray velvet fabric), but it’s a matter of taste.
Cons
  • A fully-fledged tablet still can not replace. Watching videos is impossible, as well as playing anything; applications with an abundance of animations will be annoying with a lack of smoothness, somewhere there will be unreadable text or interface elements. It is possible to speed up the screen by partially redrawing, but this significantly affects the quality of the picture and creates an afterimage. By the standards of tablets, it lives a very long time, but very little by the standards of e-books: a week of work against a month. However, I have more than enough. At least something these days does not need to be charged every day. A frosted film is glued to the glass, although I was counting on frosted glass. The film reflects unpleasantly in the sun and is more likely to get dirty than glass with anti-reflective and oleophobic coatings. Holding a book without a cover is uncomfortable, because the glass on the back is very slippery. It's strange, considering that Sony and Apple phones have glasses that are much more tenacious in their hands.

Fits the description completely, very satisfying.

The ability to adjust the degree of clarification / fat content: Many programs or books/pictures have extra black dots near lines, caused by scanning artifacts (for example). You can manually adjust, at any convenient time, remove these dots, enhance the rendering of the font. This is also a minus - it is not automatically applied, the last configured one is saved. You have to adjust for each book individually. The general impression is that the pdf text looks better on the iPad. But in…

Pros
  • .: Found the button to optimize the application. She was hiding in the drop-down menu. Or long press on the application and it will also pop up there. This is a button with the functionality "make beautiful". Here, literally, pressed - it became beautiful. Now the book has no more flaws for me. She is perfect. Good screen. No worse than glass.) Android. IMHO, a definite plus. The ability to adjust the degree of lightness / boldness of the font. I'll tell you more about this in a comment. Good built-in readers. I tried all the alternatives - the built-in ones turned out to be better. Apparently, the software is just specially sharpened for iron.
Cons
  • Some text characters in pdf'ke the same iPad renders somehow more smoothly, prettier, chtol. Turns on for a long time. There is no auto-backlight from the time of day (more precisely, it is kind of dumb).

I sat with the old PocketBook 902, hesitated for a long time to spend that kind of money or not, in the end I decided to buy it and I'm satisfied. Everything that I missed in PocketBook 902 is here. Has pros: Good clear screen, backlight, good resolution, fast screen refresh. The ability to install third-party applications from Google Play is very captivating. Cons below: The price is the main downside in my opinion. It is a pity that MyBook does not work and you cannot read his books, the…
