Plug and play, works great on Windows 10.

Had to replace an old USB to RS232 cable while working on our gate control software. We upgraded computers and I found that the old cable doesn't work well with Windows 10 due to driver issues. It was plug and play, didn't even need a disc but I think a disc will come with it in case you don't have internet.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel

Doesn't work on Mac.

The chip in this cable will not work with Mac on Big Sur. The driver uses an architecture that was deprecated over a year ago. The manufacturer knew they had to update the driver for over a year. If you have a Mac, buy the cable with the FTDI or SiliconLabs chip, not the Prolific 2303 chip in this cable. The seller must remove the Mac from the list of supported platforms.

Worked on Windows 10 x64 with PuTTY

Installed on Windows 10 x64 10.0.17763.316 - was able to communicate with my router's serial port. When I plugged it in, Windows didn't automatically install the driver, but when I opened Device Manager and selected "Update Driver" and allowed it to search the internet, it was able to find and install the driver. Without rebooting I had COM3 and PuTTY was able to use it. Edit: Bought a second one - was good too.

Windows 10 works with it. Updated Old Garmin GPS

Version PL2303 RA Use Chipset Verification Disk (PL2303RA) to make it work for Windows 10. Run the driver installer and then use the Garmin updater that recognized the managed device to update the old Garmin Aviation GPS Navigator GPSMAP 196 with old DB9 serial cable interface.

I think I missed the reviews

It's terrible. You have no reach. If you move about 7 feet away from your phone, they turn off. They also don't produce much volume. You have to crank them all the way up and they're still not loud. Not sure how good the battery is as I tried it for about 15 minutes and decided to return it.

Pros
  • Great for a small home

  • sad packaging

This thing saved me no kidding

I'm in the tech industry working on a product called Southwest Microwaves Intrepid Perimeter Monitoring System, it's their legacy Micro Point system (not II) and modules communicate via RS-232, well I thought I was ready to serve this client site until I plugged in an older USB to RS-232 adapter and couldn't find the COM port(?) so opened it I checked device manager only to find out what its driver is no longer supported by microsoft! AAAAAAAAAA! Free Windows 10! However, I remembered having…

Pros
  • A dream come true
Cons
  • Very expensive

This adapter is amazing. My application is a Windows 10 host laptop with a Windows XP guest running VMware Workstation. The XP box was previously on real hardware that was dying, so I virtualized it. It was a trading system with a serial modem attached, so I had to look for a solution as the laptop doesn't have serial ports. This guy was such a decision. I installed the drivers (included with the adapter) on an XP guest and everything went fine. Then I connected the modem to the laptop through…

Fake chip? Windows 10 won't let it work

Bought this adapter to record data from my broadband oxygen sensor in the car. I'm using Windows 10 and this is how it worked for me. I plugged in the adapter, but devices don't see it. I used the CD that came with it to install the driver. Windows device management recognized the device but returned an error message stating that the device could not be turned on. I've tried restarting the computer, reinstalling the driver, and turning the device off and on again. So I let Windows search the…

Not recommended except in cool locations with strong airflow.

I am Lumens Chief Network Architect and I use many different routers/switches in my home as I always install PoC in my home to test network solutions for work. I have purchased several of these Category 6 cables for my home and PoC. I used one of these cables from my Asus Wi-Fi 6 router's WAN gateway at home to my Tablo, which wirelessly streams local HD channels to my smart TVs. Yes, I refuse to pay cable companies $150 a month when I can get most of the channels you will ever want for free. I
