Description of π§ AmazonBasics 4-Piece Wood Chisel Set, Ideal for Industrial Power & Hand Tools
4-piece chisel tool set for hobbyist or professional woodworkers. Heat-treated chrome vanadium (Cr-V) steel alloy blades and beveled edges. Comfortable wooden handles improve accuracy and reduce hand strain; includes metal strike plate on end. Storage pouch with buckle closure keeps tools organized and secured. Set includes 4x chisels 1/4 inch (6mm) ,1/2 inch (13mm), 3/4 inch (19mm) and 1 inch (25mm).
Product arrived with a chipped blade and worn paint on top. They appear to have been used and then sold as "new". I would recommend spending the extra $5 on a new set from a more reputable brand.
Not ready to use, big burrs when sharpening. The top surface slopes front to back, making the guide difficult to use. Once properly sharpened it works very well, steel seems to be better than "cheap" steel for not much more money.
I have used these to hang some doors and am planning to use them on a wood inlay project. They fit my hands perfectly and were sharp enough to finish the doors. I agree with other comments that they could be sharper but the value is great. Love the scabbard and each blade comes with its own plastic wrap.
Haven't had much time with them but they sharpen well. A suitcase or scooter with tools is fine. While the metal bands on the front are well fastened, the rings on the back are a bit loose, I assume they'll tighten up once the back ends are mushroomed. Essentially, you should know that you are not buying expensive tools.
The chisels are very good. Would give them 5 stars but the storage bag is really bad. It does not prevent the chisels from falling out even when closed and tightened. It is simply not possible to store sharp chisels in this bag as they will fall out and you don't want sharp chisels falling uncontrollably onto the work piece or onto you.
The case is not intended for long-term use, but if the chisel slips the steel may chip or bend. A curved chisel requires a lot of extra cleaning and may not be accurate. It wasn't a problem for me, but if you're a beginner, don't snap off the tip. My chisels were a bit rusty but it was 105 degrees and my sweat was on them (my fault). This accelerated the corrosion of the steel, but I'm not sure there are many stainless steels out there that can withstand the evaporating sweat.
