This case meets both needs and also has a zipped pocket in the lid for storing flat items (paintbrushes). The zippers feel solid and work well. It has 1 zipper that goes through 3 sides and when the zipper is fully unzipped you can open the bag fully so both sides lay flat and you can get things without flapping around on your hand. Once opened, there is a smaller mesh pocket on the left with its own zipper. In this side I put the erasers and in the deeper part I put all my drawing pencils. It can take a lot.
