Troubleshooting down to this small part was difficult, but replacing it was simple and straightforward. After checking my water heater, I found that something was blocking the exhaust pipe, causing the propane to burn off on the outside of the pipe, causing the heater to thermally shut off, and thank goodness it did it that. If it weren't there, then something would be heated, but not water. After cleaning the hose and replacing the thermal switch, the water heater works perfectly and offers a pleasantly hot shower.
