Great for Monarchs - Training & Education

Almost perfect. Side or bottom door required for cleaning. Tip: I kept monarch and tiny caterpillar eggs in an empty plastic, disposable food container with a lid and a paper towel on the bottom for easy cleanup. The caterpillars were so tiny that at first I thought they could crawl through the mesh. As the monarch caterpillars grew a little, I successfully kept them in this net, putting a new paper towel on the bottom daily for a quick clean.

Suitable for butterflies only

Good cage for butterflies only. I have several monarch caterpillars and it was not easy to place milkweed with enough space for them. Like I said, I put it to the side. It worked well enough. I lined it with wax paper to keep the litter out of the mesh. Three caterpillars pupate on branches inside the cage and not on the enclosure. Also on the lid is only a small Velcro fastener. The caterpillars might run away. I bought a large 24 x 24 x 24 zippered pop up cube and it works much better for…

Good habitat for butterflies

I recently came across a butterfly chrysalis and needed a case to keep it in, it's a nice mesh case with a vinyl bottom and a mesh lid with velcro closure. Belt. This habitat is about 60cm high and each has two velcro straps that you can attach and hang to keep cats or dogs away from your butterflies. I recently ordered a milkweed plant for myself and I am planning to put it in, the butterflies will lay eggs on this plant a week after they appear and the caterpillars will eat this plant. I plan

Great habitat for pets!

Great! I ordered a butterfly larva from a teacher and all I needed was a net - used a few times in my classroom - washes well and is durable - we loved our butterflies - I ordered another larva from Revain after that first batch came out. The easiest pet - we fed him slices of fruit. Little did I know that I should not let them out into the open field but under the trees, and when our butterflies flew out, diving birds flew in and attacked, the poor children were very upset! Excellent…

Good simple design in education and training

Overall I am very happy with this butterfly habitat and was able to release 8 monarch butterflies at the end of the season. I kept this on the patio table for protection along with an umbrella for fear that our house would be too dry. Since it was stored outdoors I found that a heavy weight was needed to keep it from blowing away on a windy day. My only real complaint is that some monarch caterpillars have their cocoons attached half to the opening side of the lid and part to the side. This…

It's a wonderful experience for children

It's a wonderful experience for children. We have been observing and assisting monarchs for several years and bought this for our grandchildren to experience first hand. We grow milkweed in our garden, which you can buy in the garden center. They are very easy to root for future plants. After they lay their eggs on the milkweed, we bring them to our solarium or similar habitat together with the milkweed. Here you can observe how the caterpillars eat all the milkweed leaves and grow very…

Monarch Caterpillar Habitat

I bought this to house the big fat monarch caterpillars ready to form pupae. They seem ready when they leave Spurge. I set these aside and place the caterpillars in small bowls made of flower tubes filled with water containing spurge. I also have a full cup of water with a lid containing a stalk of milkweed with leaves and flowers. They fix the habitat, otherwise it will roll onto its side. The only thing I didn't do was sew the fabric to the top trellis because the caterpillars don't like the…
