Original battery required

Attention buyers! This backup battery drain pump requires a proprietary battery that costs much more than a standard battery (dry battery plus acid), requires service every six months, and has a shorter lifespan than standard batteries. Battery life is also shorter than a standard battery. This means that at a big event (like Sandy had a few years ago) the battery will not last for the duration of the event - and to be on the safe side you have to get an overpriced second battery. BIG MISTAKE!

Not a very powerful pump.

I recently installed 3 additional drain pumps in our house. 2 were "Watchdog Special" and one was "Emergency". The other two have 4 to 6 feet of buoyancy and pump from 30 to 60 feet. They work great. This one, not so much. Then he climbs 6 feet out of the house and he can barely make it. If a second pump is running (which gets 1 1/2 out of the same pipe, it just runs and doesn't pump water. I recommend the Watchdog Special. It's not much. The charging system and interface are winners though.

  • Generally good but...

This is the second watchdog I use. At first it worked more or less normally for 10-12 years, then it stopped. One thing I want to share with the community, which I think is crazy about system design, is that you can't replace one of their components if it has failed. As soon as I tried replacing the pump itself or the electronic control unit itself, the defective part immediately damaged the good one. I called the company and they confirmed it to me. You have to buy and replace the whole thing,
