Doesn't work in the car cigarette lighter because there isn't enough power to put out even 1 watt. If you try to beam, the radio will simply reset. It's ok to listen. Maybe some cars have stronger cigarette lighter current for that to work then.

Both are good if you just want to listen, but once you start transmitting at high power the unit heats up to the point where you you can no longer hold the radio and the display will dim and turn off. Check both devices and they will overheat in a matter of seconds.

I finally got a chance to use them this week and they worked great. The cigarette lighter plug has a red LED that lights up when plugged in, and the adapter snaps right into the radio. At full power, the radio works perfectly and does not heat up. They're so reasonably priced that if you even think you're going to need one at night, just buy them!
