Perfect for my Fluval/aquaclear 20 and 50 filters. Keeps the aquarium clean and fish love to eat any Artemia that get stuck in it. I also bought these to keep my mystery snails from getting stuck to the filter tube. Tank of 36 liters.

I prefer these to the Fluval or Aquaclear brands which I bought for almost the same price. Prevents my roasts from being sucked into the hob. I change them, I use one, and when it needs cleaning, I clean it and put a new one on. Then when the new one needs to be cleaned, I put the used ones back on and clean the old one. Works well.

This pre-filter is both good and bad. It is of course thinner than a sponge. It works well in my small 5 gallon shrimp tank - this filter has a fairly low flow rate initially. But in my 20 gallon tank it slows the flow and has a suction effect that affects the functionality of the filter. The good thing about this product is that it has no hole. I wish this company would offer a Courser sponge pre-filter! No one seems to understand the importance of closing an ending anymore.

I bought it because I often have a problem with a Fluval / Aquaclear filter hose that clogs quickly with plant debris (especially after water change and gravel removal). They work and you get a good amount of bang for your buck. Unfortunately they are not suitable for Fluval/Aquaclear filters (10-30 or 20-50). With some modifications (by cutting the bottom in half to stop the filter I was able to keep it in place (but any movement can cause it to fall off)

When this product arrived the chemically processed smell was INTENSE. Forget how warped they looked due to poor workmanship. I rinsed them out and soaked them in Prime and Stability for 48 hours. When I took them out of the soaking bath, I still smelled like chemicals, but I was sure everything was fine. NO! In less than 3 days my mysterious snails and 2 fish died. These are great pre-filters that I use in my 20 gallon goldfish tank. Before I received it, two things happened. At first the algae-eating snails were interested in the filter inlet and were already dead when I found them. Second, when the goldfish ate or uprooted the plants, the plants would be sucked into the intake pipe and slowly rot. It was impossible to clean without an old toothbrush. When they need cleaning you can see them start to take on an hour glass shape as they are sucked towards the pump inlet. Reducing the flow of water as they do. Cleaning is as easy as removing and rinsing/spinning, saving you the trouble of disassembling and cleaning a large pump so often.
