If the power goes out, you're protected and can check the gauges if there's a problem when power comes back. No need to pull out and check the device. It does exactly what it's supposed to do. Side connectors can face up or to the side for easy access. It doesn't look cheap nor does it feel cheap. I have zero complaints.
