Well balanced for precision and comfort, this wood mallet is carefully crafted to feel good in your hand while swinging and striking, you’ll know its quality workmanship the second you pick it up. Tapered handle for additional strength, the wood mallet head is secured by a 12" tapered Beech wood handle, making it impossible for the head to fly off, the handle is also smooth, splinter free, and easy to grip. Ideal for general joinery work and a perfect pairing with your favorite chisels, this wonderful wood mallet is made in China with old world craftsmanship and quality. Made of premium kiln-dried Beech wood, this 5-1/4-inch Wood Mallet comes with an angled face and a smooth, splinter-free grip handle, which is also tapered to keep the head rock solid. Rubber mallets do not offer the hard residence needed, and forget metal, as they are too heavy, and will also damage your tools. This makes a wooden mallet very necessary, and this is one of the finest you can buy.

I hope your glue is better than theirs.

Well that doesn't mean it's a bad tool. But when I opened the box to check the hammer, the head was not attached. I was wondering if this was intentional, but I don't recall seeing anything about self-assembly in the description. It looks more like the head was glued to the handle with something too flimsy to hold properly. I guess I should have been glad it fell apart before trying to use it or I might have been in for a nasty surprise. I think I'll try to re-glue it myself. Hope it lasts!

Cut canal with spoon?

I was *very* disappointed with this purchase. The channel that the handle slides into (which fixes the head by friction) looks like it was carved with a blunt spoon. or maybe a scoop of ice cream. Large cavities are formed immediately after opening, as a result of which the handle only touches in a few places. The sides should be flat and the handle should be firmly in the head. I used to see the best woodwork in the high school workshop. Otherwise the finish is nice enough and the hammer is…

Pros
  • Ideal for general carpentry work and pairs beautifully with your favorite chisels. This wonderful mallet is made in China with ancient craftsmanship and quality.

Poor quality control, not worth the cost.

the star because the only good thing is the place, hard wood to the touch is not like that. It's so soft that even light hits will dent the head.* The hammer seems pretty solid, but the quality control is terrible. The hole is because the handle on the head looks like it was gouged out with a dull butter knife. I'm surprised the friction fit works at all. The finish, which at first seems unnecessary, is semi-finished, with drips on some surfaces and overspray on others. Even the logo is only…

A good hammer for beginner carpenters

First a comment on another review that the head is not well bonded to the handle. The head isn't glued to the handle at all, and that's on purpose. I can only assume that the reviewer has never made or used a hammer with a tapered tongue and groove design. The handle fits easily in the top of the head, but due to the taper it cannot loosen during use. The more you use it, the stronger the connection will be. But if the handle breaks, or you just want to detach it so the hammer can be stowed in…
