Description of 🐟 Aquatic Experts Large Bio Balls Filter Media - 1.5 Inch Pond Filter Bio Ball - Top-Quality Media for Pond Filters – Made in The USA

OUTSTANDING FILTRATION! Each bio ball is covered in spines to dramatically increase the surface area of each ball to nearly 2 square feet providing space for a massive number of beneficial bacteria to colonize. These good bacteria break down harmful organic waste. You will receive approximately 100 1-1/2-inch bio balls in a mesh bag. Just rinse and use. TOUGH AND UNIQUE! Our bio balls’ spherical shape and precise spine placement permits them to pack tightly into any shape or filter type without losing surface area. Molded from high density plastic, these balls are lightweight but tough enough to keep their shape and will never degrade or wear out. Bio balls can be used loose or in the mesh bag with plastic zipper. TRUSTED! Our Bio balls are 100% polypropylene making them reliable biological filtration media for fresh and saltwater. They are manufactured for use in koi and water garden ponds, freshwater fish tanks, saltwater aquariums, aquaponics, fish hatcheries and much more. SUPERIOR TO LAVA ROCK: Over time, porous lava rock becomes clogged with d debris decreasing its surface area so that its ability to house and grow good beneficial bacteria plummets. Our bio balls’ uniquely spaced spines allow most debris to pass right through them. Lava rock has tiny pores which make it difficult to clean while bio balls in most applications never need cleaning. A bag of wet lava rock is many times heavier than our bio balls. EASY TO CLEAN - When organic waste builds up in the bioballs, they can be gently rinsed in dechlorinated wate to remove debris and refresh the bioballs. Use our FilterFIrst, dual density bonded filter pad, or water polishing pad to capture large particles before they can be trapped in the bioballs.

They do what they say

These biospheres have been in the bottom of my filter canisters for 20 years. They work great if you add the recommended biobacteria on a weekly basis. I am adding them to a new inline filter in my 20 year old pond. WHY? because we added 400 gallons to the pond. Finally! No regrets, we look forward to new adoptions in our Pisces family.

Pros
  • good stuff
Cons
  • not the best

Good balls for fish and aquatic animals

These are nice and large regular shaped balls. All in all, you will be proud to call these balls your own. As with balls, you should avoid crushing them as they can break, which can make you scream in terror. When you take these balls in the palm of your hand, you will feel their weight. I keep my balls in her bag and enjoy swinging them in the water. Once your balls are covered in bacteria you will find them to be very efficient and productive.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Alternative project

I bought these for a bottom filter/carp pond pump. Don't try this idea! They clogged easily for carp ponds in my particular setup. I don't know why they clog more than fish stones but they do. It had to be the best flow system. (This review is only for people with alternative carp pond situations and experimentation). I'm sure it can work as intended, but some of us carp pond folks are always looking for our solutions.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Can be retrofitted

Good size, high quantity and easy to clean

I bought these to use in a 20 gallon sump under a 90 gallon aquarium. I split them into two large mesh bags in two sections of the sump under the main tank. I used them to replace 2 gallon ceramic rings that were old and clogged. I wanted a larger bio bead as it would NOT fit in a canister filter and I had a lot of sump space. They correspond to this injury and their number was more than sufficient for my needs. They seem to work well and rinse out easily.

Pros
  • It's amazing
Cons
  • There are nuances

WOW! I see my koi.

We've been battling the green water monster since spring and finally found that our UV lamp isn't working properly. I came across these while looking for a new one. A few years ago we had a new pool with a waterfall installed and somehow these little things were forgotten. I decided to order these as the light would take a while to get here. We put them in a pool and in just 24 hours the pond was crystal clear. I was shocked that they worked so well and only had one pocket. Due to the size of…

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
