Clean the entrance hole on interior and exotic hardwood, but this will cause a tear on the back. If you don't have to worry about the underside of the wood or if you don't pierce it all the way through, this is going to be hard to beat.

The bits came in a wooden box with foam inlay. Time will tell how long it will last. Right out of the box, every 10-bit I've used was clear and accurate with no noticeable wobble. When using a 7/8" bit for 10 consecutive 1-1/2" deep holes, the bit was actually quite warm, not hot.

I used this drill bit to drill holes for four pepper mills - end grain - in medium density wood. Drilled on a low speed lathe. It generated a lot of heat and after the fourth hole the drill went completely dull and seemed to lose control. I would recommend spending a little more to get a better quality HSS bit that won't burn out easily.
