Description of ๐ŸŒฟ Brightwell Aquatics FlorinBase Laterin Substrat F - Premium Clay Base Substrate for Planted and Shrimp Aquaria

Provides long term nutrient availability with properties similar to hardened clay soils native to the environments where aquarium plants were originally collected. Very fine, high porosity, kiln fired clay granules; Ideal medium for use under gravel or substrates in planted freshwater aquariums. Rich in a plethora of natural minerals, particularly iron, for luscious plant growth and health. Designed to be used as a base layer just above FlorinBase Laterite powder. Will not elevate pH.

Disappointing Aquarium Water Treatment

This product was a letdown. While it did help improve the clarity of the water, it caused major pH imbalances that were detrimental to my fish. I had to purchase additional pet supplies to fix the problem it created. I do not recommend this water treatment.

Pros
  • Pro: Improved water clarity.
Cons
  • Con: Caused pH imbalances.

dirty things. I hope it's worth it.

I am SOOOOO glad to read so many reviews on this product. I prepare a small aquarium for planting and put some Florin Base in a small bowl to rinse it out. I can't imagine the nightmare it would have given my tank if I hadn't spent 15 minutes filling and flushing it, repeat. to nausea. Then fold back on a sieve to rinse a little more. I only used about 3/4 cup and was able to recontaminate the jug mound in the Safeco field by washing away the dirt. (I'm not a fan of the new fuchsia lights, soโ€ฆ

Exactly how it sounds

I will try to update it after a long time of use but at the time of opening when I didn't find much about it on the internet I thought I should describe it. I would say the particle size is a mix of play sand and pool filter sand so it's fine but not mud when wet. It needs rinsing, but what can you expect when you buy clay? Fairly uniform in size, not as many large (as in pool filter sand) particles, and the smallest ones I have after washing are like fine debris that end up in the play sand. I
