Office electronics OS support

PT-2600 discontinued. Please note that the latest compatible operating system is Windows NT, which is no longer supported. Brother has discontinued support for this printer. It is not compatible with Windows 7.8 or 10.

Pros
  • High quality construction
Cons
  • Very expensive

The car is great BUT!

The machine is excellent. The computer interface is very convenient as the PT-2600's keyboard is a bit difficult to understand. The big disadvantage is the price of the tapes. Like many items you buy today, consumables are expensive.

Pros
  • Amazing
Cons
  • Doubtful

Excellent labeling system

My boss bought one of these for the office to keep things organized and organized. Although I turned down this new part of my job description, I found the Brother PT-2600 labeller easy to use and extremely comfortable. I ended up buying one for my home office. Now all my manuscripts, diskettes, CDs and cassettes are clearly identified. This is a great tool!

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Secret

Does everything except .

I was looking for a versatile labeling system and this one can do that and more. It can create barcodes from your PC and even use Avery labels. If you're looking for something to easily create simple labels around the house and for your file system, this might be overkill. The biggest complaint about this machine compared to other Brother machines that are smaller and have a hand cutter is that this machine uses a lot more ribbon (you spend almost 1 inch on the front to print). and 1.5 inchesโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Expensive

So far so good, but there are a few surprises

This machine works well and is well thought out. It's easy to use, whether via a computer or manually. But it's heavier than I thought (2.5 pounds). And it has an annoying trait: when used with a computer, before a label is printed, it trims the excess blank label by about 1/2 inch. Tech support has reported that all Brother labellers do this (see their full answer below). When you print by hand, there is extra space on your label before and after printing that you can trim by hand. Whenโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Communication with seller

This is the best with one small caveat

If you are reading this you are looking for a good labeling system. If you want a "standalone" product (that can even be plugged into your computer), this is the best of both worlds. I mostly use the Brother PT-2600 as a standalone device. The few times I've used it with my Mac G4, it offered many options, most of which I don't need, so I prefer to use it without a computer (although the USB port stays plugged in). I've been using mine for almost a year with no problems and no batteryโ€ฆ

  • Everything is great!
