Doesn't work with IDE DVD drive

Maybe this item should only work with IDE hard drives, it didn't work with IDE DVD drive. Added about 1 minute to POST time where it used to be 2-3 seconds.

    Pros
    • Handy thing
    Cons
    • Without insurance

    Works as advertised

The hard drive is a bit awkward to remove and install, as you basically have to hold it by the circuit board. But you get what you pay for and it works.

    Pros
    • New in my collection
    Cons
    • Quality

It took a few tries to get it working

I received it today and had to try a few configurations to make it work as there was no instruction manual. This was to convert the second PATA/IDE hard drive to SATA. To get it working I used a jumper to set the drive to the "master" position. I also made sure the SATA port it was plugged into was behind the SATA port used by the main boot drive. This has worked for me so far at least, I'll update the review over time to see if the part continues to work. Hope this helps others.

    • Sturdy design

    No Joy cables and connections

Well, as other reviewers have said, there are no instructions. Although it didn't take long, it just didn't work for me. I tried different SATA cables and drives, but my motherboard didn't recognize the connected drives. Not sure if newer motherboards would be more successful? But in that case, you'll probably still be using Sata. I'm sorry to say, no joy back, it's coming.

Works great with old IDE HD connected to SATA cables!

I had two 18 year old IDE hard drives with data I wanted to retrieve. I hooked up this unit using the picture (attached to this review) as a guide (the other reviewers were right, it comes with no instructions). Jumper the IDE drive as the main drive (this was recommended by other reviewers and DID matters, I also plugged it in after the main drive) and I was able to read and get whatever I wanted. Great price, fast delivery, everything works as it should!

    Doesn't work - SATA cable

Wanted to access an IDE hard drive on my SATA system. It does not work. I needed to connect to an old computer that used the IDE interface. Return the item for a refund.

    Pros
    • Absolutely amazing!
    Cons
    • Bad experience

Don't buy this, it's not worth your time.

I tested this unit in a sleeper case with the IDE DVD combo drive installed and it actually works. After using this adapter, I noticed that the computer not only does not recognize the hard drive, but also boots significantly slower than before adding it. The disc wouldn't even open. This computer started from 5 seconds to almost a minute. As soon as I removed it from the system, it booted again after 5 seconds.

    • Quality construction
    Cons
    • Style 90

Does what it says on the tin for computers and accessories

I went through a stack of old drives with a USB to SATA adapter to see what was on them and then ran a secure overwrite utility to them turned off. Some of my old drives turned out to be IDE, not SATA. Instead of buying another USB adapter I got this little thing to connect IDE drives to my SATA adapter and it worked fine. Power is supplied via the supplied cable. It's actually designed as an internal component, so basically it's nothing more than a vulnerable circuit board, but if you treat it
