Beware of the 12 liter polycarbonate food container

The rating here is probably unfair. I bought a Cambro 12 liter polycarbonate food container and this lid will NOT work with it unless you force it open and then pry it open with a knife. For polycarbonate you need the RFSCWC12 cover. This cap can work well with polypropylene or however you spell it. The seller should not present it as a lid for a 12 liter food container as it clearly will not fit.

Pros
  • Transparent material, strong and stain resistant
Cons
  • Expensive

Suitable if you use heat to stretch it

All reviews that say it is smaller than the container are true. However, since this lid is made of soft plastic, I used a hair dryer to heat the plastic and used pliers to pry the edge back slightly. I have it fit on a container. Let it cool down and take it off. It was still difficult to put it back on. I think I'll try soaking it in hot water and maybe washing it in the dishwasher (pull out to cool) to see if I can get it to work more easily. You don't have to do this, but it's worth a try…

  • Lids for 12, 18 & 22 quart round storage containers

Difficult to fit - kitchen and dining room

I bought this lid and the 12 qt to match. Container because of the recommendation in the book Flour, Water, Salt, Yeast, and if you're considering it for similar reasons, I have a warning. I'm a male, 77 years old and I weigh about 205 pounds and it takes all my strength and weight to snap the lid on and pry it off with a table knife. Before I got it I used a small green plastic bucket with a lid that I got from Menards and other than that I couldn't see through it, it worked well and I still…

Pros
  • Snap on lids that fit well but are easy to remove
Cons
  • disappear
