As the motorhome ages the valves start to leak a bit, mostly on the gray tank. (At least that's my hope). I use that and put a small plastic ball valve on the end of the hose. When it's time to connect, I put a bucket under the block and turn on the ball valve. If I detect a leak through the valves, it runs into a bucket so I can flush it down the drain. Our old sewer cap was fine until our black sewer shut-off valve stopped closing completely. I'm still working on making it close better. There is probably something stuck to it that is leaking liquids. The old lid's seal wasn't as thick and comfortable anymore, and was held in place with just two pins instead of four as here.
