Used 4 times before it broke

After using it 4 times in about a year, I plugged it in for the 5th time and there was a VERY loud buzzing noise coming from the unit. I was told to stop using it, this gave me no indication that I had had a power surge or brownout before. I bought an EMS protector from Progressive Industries with a lifetime guarantee, a little more expensive but the best rating on the market. should have gone with them first.

Pros
  • One year trial

Doubtful - Inverter

I am currently camping with about 50 other campers at a campground in Idaho. While the AC was running in our RV (30 amp system) the surge protector kept cutting our power, trying to restart and after a long cycle of cycling we called the folks running the campground. We disconnected the surge protector from the panel and solved the problem. Upon inspection, one of the three copper terminals became hot, discolored, and slightly melted the plastic at the base. I don't understand electricalโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Some Flaws

This surge protector, part number 55301, was used about 8 times before it stopped working. I contacted Camco and they told me to send it in for possible repair. The Camco technician said the connectors had been removed, it was beyond repair and it was also out of warranty. After several emails back and forth about using their surge protector while camping, their customer service rep told me that I should have put the unit in a garbage bag to keep it from getting wet. In other words, this is not

Love how good it looks

Love how good it looks, beautiful and durable. I am using it while writing this review. When I first plugged it in it took about 2 minutes to do a shore power tower analysis, then it rattled and was ready to go. The only downside is that the protector is a bit long for that shore power pole on this particular campsite. As can be seen in the photos, the trailer plug is on the ground. I hope this is an isolated case. You can also see that I wrapped the chain around the box and block to keep theโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Weatherproof: withstands harsh weather when installed vertically
Cons
  • Fits

Our trip saved!

We have just returned from a 4 day hike. When we got to our campsite, the first thing I did was power the trailer through a 30 amp Camco Power Defender. My wife turned on the air conditioner and started unpacking our things. She turned on every light in the trailer and the radio too! So, with the fridge on, lights on, air conditioning on, radio on, it was too much for our small trailer. The Power Defender turned everything off without tripping the main switch or any switches or fuses in theโ€ฆ

Dangerous Big Crisis

When I was camping, this device got so hot it completely stuck to my trainer cord! I'm SO VERY grateful it didn't start a fire in our car! My coach is relatively new and there was no problem from the coach's side, so I'm not sure why that happened or why he didn't do his job to prevent things like that. Either I had a defective device or this thing is just DANGEROUS. and generally poorly designed. I didn't want to just splice the new end of the connector and risk something not sealing properly.

Cannot withstand rain and fails.

The product is working properly. So far the price-performance ratio is good. I used a more expensive surge protector until it stopped working after just three years. At Camco, there is always good or bad with their products. I used this voltage fuse on my current RV trip. The surge protector worked with no issues and I've stopped at Good Sam rated RV parks. The indicator lights are small and difficult to see during the day. They are very bright at night. It is important to keep the product card

Pros
  • Starters, chargers, and portable power supplies
Cons
  • Unsure
