A quick and easy way to convert cassettes, LPs and CDs to stereo digital MP3 files

I've searched all over the internet for a way to convert all my cassette tapes to digital MP3 files, so good I could found cheap cassette converters, most of which required a connection to a computer and conversion software. I didn't want to tie my computer and time to it. I ordered a HopCentury digitizer to test. Works great and without much effort. Simply connect one or more output lines from a cassette, CD or player to the digitizer and insert a USB flash drive. Start the player and pressโ€ฆ

Not Prime Time Ready

First off, the setup and recording process was very easy. On paper, an audio capture recorder is a great concept; I love the idea of recording audio digitally without using a computer. I like the remote control and the ability to save the converted audio to the SD card as an mp3. However, after many attempts, I was not able to get a clean recording without hum and noise. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is too low. I tried recording at normal volume and gradually increasing the volume to see ifโ€ฆ

Easy to use but poor sound quality

I used this with a PNY Elite-X Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive 128GB - 200MB/s. This is a fairly fast drive with a low profile and a decent amount of storage. There were higher and lower capacity options for this drive. The drive came pre-formatted to FAT-32, which is required for this digital recorder, so all I had to do with it was plug it into the recorder. This drive appeared to work fine with this unit (although sound quality may be affected, see below). The audio in of the device is connected toโ€ฆ

Sounds great, easy to use with different sound sources.

I have to admit that this $27 thing is great, it took me a bit of time to experiment with different audio input sources. You can make each song a separate MP3 file by double-clicking the start button, and if there is a gap in noise between songs, a new file will start. I've found that this technique doesn't always work, a separate file for each song, because sometimes when there's a slow part or a gap in the music in the middle of a song, a new file starts and you get an annoying fast oneโ€ฆ
