I find them too cute compared to conventional embroidery frames. They are also thick and very durable. The only thing I don't like is that they're a bit difficult to put back together once you've positioned the fabric. You need to clamp the "wood" part around the inner plastic part. It has no screw to loosen or tighten the outside like traditional embroidery frames.

I accidentally tried them, although I suspected the faux wood would look garish up close. I was positively surprised! They certainly don't look like real wooden hoops, but I think they add a sophisticated look to my projects that I can't get with traditional hoops. The inside is rigid and the outside flexible enough to be easily rearranged while keeping the fabric taut. I've used several now and the hardware on one seemed poorly attached. This frame is perfect for embroidery. I'm not interested in screw-on tires or wooden tires. I had one like this a few years ago and after 10 years it finally got a small crack so I needed a replacement. With them they have a small hanging metal at the top that is easy to unscrew (keep it) and then just use the rings to work. This is a plastic tire and the part surrounding it is made of soft rubber.
