Stopped charging after 45 days

Updated: Cable Matters sent me a replacement cable free of charge. It's working so far, hopefully I won't be back to update this in another 45 days :)I use this as my primary charger for my laptop which supports USB-C charging. It worked for the first 45 days or so, but now it won't charge my laptop or power bank. I've confirmed it's the cable by using other cables in the same configuration and verifying that they work. Perhaps this is because I travel with it, but I'm not hard on it at allโ€ฆ

Nice long TB3 cable

I was super excited to finally find a USB-C TB cable that was longer than 3 feet. I've been wanting to nicely dress the cables on my desk and place my laptop next to my monitor in a fashion that doesn't require the laptop to be moved when the lid is opened or closed. I was thrilled when I plugged into this 6 ft cable and the video displayed on my monitor. Previous cables that claimed to do 4k video failed to do so. Unfortunately a minute or two running with this setup, my Dell Latitude 7490โ€ฆ

  • Delivery was very fast

  • Worries me

Works as an Oculus Link cable

I bought this cable to use for Oculus Link, and it works perfectly. While this cable is more expensive than the 10 foot USB A to USB C Anker cable that Oculus links to from their website, I wanted a higher-quality C to C cable that would be somewhat future-proof. This cable is TECHNICALLY capable of 20 Gbps as stated, but more than likely you will be getting 5 Gbps if you're just using this from a standard USB-C port on a PC into a device (in my case, an Oculus Quest) . In order to get the fullโ€ฆ

***DOES NOT SUPPORT DAISY CHAINING LIKE 40gbps ACTIVE CABLES DO ***

If you want to use this as just one straight run to one device you should be fine at this being half the cost of active cables , but unfortunately that was not my use case. Tried to use this in a daisy chain setup where it failed to allow any device past the first to properly show up. An Apple Thunderbolt Display couldn't be detected, nor could a TB3 dock from OWC, nor an Akitio thunderquad external ssd/hd array when plugged in behind the first device. Switching back to a 40gbps short passiveโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Superb construction
Cons
  • Wrinkled packaging

Engineering not quite perfect

Cable Matters is generally a quality brand, and so I am reluctant to criticize them too much. This cable isn't quite engineered properly. Specifically, it does not securely snap in to the connector on my external LaCie drive nor on my laptop. The connectors on the cable is just a hair too short somewhere. It might be the rubber casing around the connectors, or it might be the length of the teeth on the connectors, I don't know, but something isn't right. When using the cable, I found myselfโ€ฆ

  • Gives pleasure
Cons
  • Mostly okay, but...

Great Price and Quality (as always) From Cable Matters

As always, Cable Matters delivers another quality cabling product. I stumbled across this brand a year or so ago and have found every one of the cables I purchased from them to be of the utmost quality. In many cases, better than OEM.NOTE: This cable only does speeds up to 20 Gbps. If you want a TB3 Cable at this length that does full 40 Gbps and delivers 100 Watts of power, choose the more expensive model, found here:https://smile.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Thunderbolt-Supporting-Compatible/โ€ฆ

Pros
  • All fine!
Cons
  • Some mistakes

product does not last

I purchased this cable in the 6.6 ft length. I used my cables solely for charging devices. When my Thunderbolt cable quit working today, I looked in my order history to see when I purchased these cables because I knew I purchased several of these from this particular brand. The first cable was purchased in September 2019. It says I got another cable in December 2019 and two more cables in January. I purchased the cables only when my prior cables stopped functioning. I did not even realize thatโ€ฆ

Pros
  • That's amazing
Cons
  • Not everything is as good as written
