(Edited based on a previous one star rating) Worked about 12 times and died. On the advice of others I replaced the battery and it has been working for several months. A firm and long press is required to start the timer. Be careful when loosening the battery case screws. You will need a jeweler's screwdriver and patience. Open the battery compartment in a place where you cannot lose two small screws. Funny device.

I give credit to this company for trying to fix the problem but this product doesn't. The timer is not working properly so it doesn't beep at 1 minute. Then the beep is so small that after 4 minutes you don't hear it anymore, and sometimes it lasts 8 minutes! And you can't leave the stirrer in the press and still put the lid back on, so you've got a coffee-coated stick to clean before time runs out. Try more designers!

Nice rubberized stirrer/scraper for a French Press. You should not use steel or ceramic stirrers on the glass as this will dull the surface. Press the button and the countdown will start from 4 minutes to zero. Quite easy. The electronic part is detachable from the scraper/blender part, so the scraper/blender can be washed in the dishwasher. The electrical part can be wiped with a damp cloth, but do not immerse in water and do not clean in the dishwasher. I love it!

There are just a few tricks to brewing perfect French Press coffee: (1) great coffee; (2) a good coffee grinder that grinds well, (3) good water at the right temperature; and (4) mixing and dubbing. Cons: It's large, chunky, and displaces a lot of water, which is a problem with disposable pots. It doesn't have a scoop, so you're basically just sliding the base around the bottom of the carafe instead of pulling it out. Notes refer to a 1-minute unrest warning tone, which does not exist.
