Cretacolor Fine Art Graphite Set - 12 Count (Single Pack) Review

Cretacolor cleos are my favorite graphite pencils, softer and smoother than even the Pitt 9000. This box of 6 pencils is small enough to take with you everywhere and contains a great set for spontaneous sketching.

Two pencils had snapped (albeit painted over) straight out of the tin down the length of the pencil and wouldn't sharpen properly. That's 33% defective on arrival.

Rough, dry, soft and smooth. Not waxy. High purity graphite, similar to Conté à Paris graphite pencils. Less black, less oily than Japanese rods, sometimes too smooth for easy draws.

Cretacolor pencils are my favorite pencils. They hit a good point, give smooth, even lines, and are comfortable to the touch. The graduated caps allow you to immediately recognize the hardness or softness of the pens. They also have letters and numbers printed on them. It's a minor thing, but I don't like disassembling identical-looking printed pens. This set focuses on the softer pens that I use the most. I bought this particular set many years ago. And I've loved her for a very long time. Now that most of them are actually too short to use, I've just reordered two more sets of these. Something about the quality of the line they draw really appeals to me. The fishing line is of excellent quality, pleasant to the touch and sharpens very well with various sharpeners.
