The three tubs I ordered arrived wet and didn't work. There is a layer of hard material directly under the white paper cover, which prevents moisture from being absorbed. I only noticed that when it was too late to return it. waste of money.

I order them every six months. We live in a fairly dry climate but we have two small basements with dirt under the floor and stairs because we are built into the hill. Half of the volume is flakes, and the other half (the bottom) is filled with a cellulose-like material designed to help keep the water from spilling out of the tub. I haven't built up enough water to be sure yet, but I imagine the material in the bottom half actually absorbs the water and helps keep it from sloshing out
