Excellent converter

Excellent converter. I've installed probably 10 in the last year or so. If you're confused with the menus, connect to a computer and use the setup app, it's a little less intimidating. You can also save your settings to your computer - useful for setup if someone "accidentally" tampers with the settings. I mainly use this to make the Mac/PC interface nice with BlackMagic ATEM switches - it always seems to work.

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Everything is fine

Works well but UI is unintuitive

This is a great little signal converter that works flawlessly once set up properly. Instructions and UI are bad. If you want to convert a signal, you need to set up the converter, then APPLY the transform to the input, and make a few other subtle settings changes. I had to watch YouTube videos to understand how this thing works. Now I have 3 of them. With better programming they could be a lot better.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons

Should be your first choice for HDMI to SDI and format conversion

We had to switch to an SDI broadcast system from 720p to 1080i coming from the DJI Inspire 1 Pro. Four other adapter configurations failed. Expensive BlackMagic adapters failed. This thing worked out of the box with two simple tweaks to the menu settings. Does exactly what it's supposed to do, has multiple uses and the larger output channel looks nice. The configuration is easy and the menus are very simple.

Pros
  • Rugged construction
Cons
  • Compatibility

Excellent value and performance

I've used Decimators on a number of projects, particularly converting laptops to SDI for broadcast, and they've never let me down - PC and MacBook HDMI outputs can be converted with relative ease. This may require some tweaking depending on the source and desired output, so take the time to download the Decimator software; It will be easier than trying to go through the physical menu on the device. You can also find many great resources on YouTube to help you get set up.

Pros
  • Quality build
Cons
  • Legacy model

I ended up using this in a large teleprompter setup to correct for the monitor's reflection in the mirror. My client couldn't get used to Linux (which can flip the video output natively in the OS), so I switched the machine to Windows and used it to flip the video output horizontally on the monitor. An expensive solution, but it worked like a champ. The instructions that came with it were pretty sparse, but after a lot of fiddling I got them working for my use case. On the plus side, it retains

HDMI/SDI Heaven in a Little Red Box

If you're a video engineer and don't have either, brace yourself. Robust, reliable and does some insanely useful conversions/DA. I just wish the anamorphic scaler had more useful ratios. I've been using Decimator products since their first products. We use and own several MD-HX and MD-CROSS converters at my work. I decided it was time to get my own. Runs like a champ and has saved my ass a few times already. I would just like to upgrade to CROSS with built in test pattern generators, definitely

Pros
  • Outstanding All-Round Performance
Cons

Great product, great support

I bought the MD-HX for the sole purpose of flipping my teleprompter image horizontally for my video conferencing, so it's kind of overkill: an expensive solution for a simple problem that I unfortunately couldn't solve any other way. You would think that Microsoft should create such a simple feature in Windows, but they didn't. I tried other software utilities but none of them worked properly. So this looked like the only solution I have. When I first got the MD-HX, I tried playing around with…

Decimator MD-HX. WOW!

Let me start by saying that if you're on the fence about this. BUY IT! Amazing product! I've always read reviews from people raving about it, and while it had a VERY good reputation in the broadcast world, it was never something I NEEDED. Until last week. In short, we had a Mac Pro that ATEM Production Studio 4K didn't recognize and we needed it. Poorly. We tried software, SwitchResX and such never seemed to work for us. After hearing about this product for so long, I gritted my teeth and…

Pros
  • VERSATILE: Includes 4 (3G/HD/SD) SDI outputs and allows use as a distribution amplifier for 1 to 4. Output pair 1 can either be a copy of the SDI input (default) or identical to pair 2. The audio pairs on the SDI and HDMI outputs can be swapped out as needed.
Cons
  • fade

Quality and equipment at a top price!

This is the coolest thing! Much better workmanship, quality, versatility and functionality than Blackmagic products. First, the digital display simplifies setup. It's durable, well made and comes with everything you need, even a bracket! It's not made in Germany, but you might think so! The instructions could be worded a bit better but they are very helpful once you have a good understanding of what you are trying to achieve. The dual inputs also eliminate the need for a switcher box when you…

Pros
  • RELIABLE: Features an aluminum body with easy-to-use LCD display and push button controls, metal threaded DC power connector, USB port for control and firmware updates. Includes power adapter, HDMI and USB cable.
