I put the batteries in then dipped in water - after a little fiddling with the buttons on the back it worked! And unlike my old one which was just a thermal strip, I appreciated that it showed accurate temperature AND had a cold and hot warning light. Don't forget to take it out of the water when you're done or it won't turn off and keep flashing blue (because the water is cold). Don't worry, the frog will turn itself off if it stays without water long enough.

Didn't give 5 stars because it didn't say anywhere (at least I couldn't find it) that the batteries were already there. So I had to open the battery compartment, see that batteries are in, even tried changing one (it was 2 extra batteries) and closing it again, despite the instructions saying opening the battery compartment would cause problems with the battery Water ingress can come from inside. I really like some of the features of this bath thermometer compared to other brands of duck thermometers I've tried before. My favorite feature is the auto on and auto off (just wet it or shake it off and let it dry and it all works without having to press any buttons).
