🔧 Dorman-697-701 Black Differential Cover Review

Works on my 2000 Trans Am, no leaks. Installed with a Felpro gasket and very light (just enough to be seen) RTV sealant on the gasket on both sides to help it stick when screwed in. In the photo, the lid has been replaced.

This case is nice and thick and will last for years. It has a bluish tint that is electroplated. The included gasket really helps when the S10 diff cover gets rusty. The magnet is weak (doesn't hold, that's why it's taped to the inside of the lid). If you have a standard magnet from the original cover, simply replace it.

Looks good. I honestly didn't like the quality. I felt like tapping hard on the back would make a dent. Almost like Ting. Then, after a bit of spraying and cleaning up, the letters were gone. I'm almost wondering if Dorman made China makes these products cheaper, but hey. It's been about a month and still no leaks. I used Felpro gasket and some RTV for LS1 Maro. Guess I'll just let my wife hit the CC LOGO on her back with her cricket machine.

My restored 2000 small GMC Jimmy SUV needed a 7.5 inch rear differential cover. It fits but is very thin so I spent 10x more on the Sumitt aluminum cap. Changing differential oil is now easy. The sumitt lid has a drain and fill hole so you don't have to take the lid off. length 8 inches. THEY ARE NOT METRIC! THE M8 METRIC SCREWS ARE THREADED SEVERAL TIMES THAT YOU THINK THEY WILL FIT, BUT THEY WILL CUT THE THREAD. WORLD OF PAIN!
