Tasty water. Looks good on the counter. Expensive.

Eventually I couldn't take it anymore and decided on a stainless steel gravity water filter system. Still, I got the cheaper one, even though these stainless steel appliances are all overpriced. I have a feeling what you get (just a pair of drilled stainless steel drums plus 2 filters for almost $300) is insane. I was expecting something more complex, but it's easy to set up, although the pivot gave me a little trouble. I bought a stainless steel spigot from the start to keep the device looking

Pros
  • REUSABLE: Durable filter plug can be cleaned and reused to extend service life.
Cons
  • There are disadvantages

Hail eliminating HIGH levels of chlorine in city water

smell. I rent so installing a built in filter (with running water) is not an option. This gravity system was the right answer. water is tastier; easy filling and maintenance of the system; The system is attractive to sit on my counter. I carefully check the water levels in the upper and lower tanks when filling to avoid overfilling. I usually do this before bed because the water takes quite a long time to filter. If more than one person is using the water, more frequent refills may be required.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • not reliable

Buyer's regret

The filter elements are wonderful. I will always be loyal to the Doulton/Royal Berkefield filter element brands. BUT I have serious buyer regrets about the filter housing. And it's not even about the body itself. It's the glue they used to stick the sticker on, as well as the ridiculously thin plastic sleeve. The spigot can be replaced with a good quality stainless steel spigot for $10-15, so it's not that bad. I knew the bushing would be plastic and that I would eventually replace it. But Iโ€ฆ
