In short, overall if you just want something inexpensive for comparing lighting levels around the house or from one place to another, this is a perfectly reasonable and inexpensive meter. As mentioned, this gauge is only really good for comparisons and not absolute measurements unless you calibrate it yourself. and if you have access to the necessary hardware, you probably won't buy something that cheap! This light meter is amazing. I use it to check light levels because I'm incredibly sensitive to light (it's a medical condition). Being able to measure the full range of light from a dim lamp to bright sunlight is great. The meter is accurate over the entire range, although it cuts out at the peak of sunlight (full noon - clear California skies). For the average person (me) it doesn't matter.
