Not worth the money.

These things are almost useless. Three matches and it still doesn't light. I am absolutely dissatisfied with this product and will not buy it again.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • No paint needed

4-star kindling but 3-star tinder (difficult to light)

This makes great kindling for splitting oak logs - when firewood logs are dry and I stick them in the air , it can happen unhindered, then I don't need additional kindling. But these bars are difficult to launch alone. They work best when paired with one of those square/rectangular tabs that light up easily.

Pros
  • Hands-free work
Cons
  • Not as thick as other pickaxes

Do you need such fires?

I highly recommend Duraflame Quick Start. Definitely such beautiful lights in my photos. half. Light one end and the key is to let it ignite and burn for a few minutes before placing in a fire pit, fireplace or chimney. Then let it burn for about 5 minutes before placing logs on top. No need to light wood. Works every time and I've been using it for years!

Pros
  • Not just useful for its intended purpose
Cons
  • Annoying

show focus. Best in Camping and Backpacking

Great Invention! For the past few months, when the weather has been cold, we have made fires at night. It always took a long time for these firefighters to show up. Lay them on the ground under the tree trunks with a few sheets of newspaper. voila. instant fire that doesn't stop. Lighters burn longer than newspaper to ignite logs. Once the magazines are collected, maintenance is easy. Great sticks, you can't start a fire without them!

Pros
  • Top marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • unreliable

Excellent and reliable lighters

I have been using these lighters for over a year now. I started using my last box of 40 at the end of September and had to order another box of 40 as I was almost empty. Of course I'm an old boy scout and I can start a fire without catching fire. But why? You make it so easy! A fire start fires up my wood stove and creates that magical wood warmth. Surround the fire, start lighting firewood and watch the magic happen. Heat! I sincerely recommend this product. Neat, clean and efficient. Enjoy…

Smelly kindling - camping

We used to buy DuraFlame kindling but they were much better than these! The originals were wrapped in paper and had no odor. They are unwrapped and have a very oily and sticky quality to them. Very unclean treatment. And the worst, the smell is terrible! They stink all over the house when burned in the fireplace. You smell disgusting. I have a feeling it's burning stinky incense or something. I had a headache every time we used it until I finally realized what it was! I do not recommend. Throw…

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Nothing

Need a starter for these starters

Used detonators wrapped in wax paper which were great but apparently no longer available. These are "chocolate bars" that you break open and then set on fire. Once the bar starts working, they work perfectly. But you'll need a starter or a small blowtorch to get these starters working. "Start with a match," they say. Well, this match must be the size of a baseball bat. It takes 30-40 seconds of applied flame to work. If you have a butane lighter, stock up on fuel if you use one.

Pros
  • Expensive but decent
Cons
  • Miscellaneous Miscellaneous

edited 12/10: UPDATED. Floors that are dangerous and difficult to clean later. I suspect they reduced the amount of paraffin binder and also reduced the size of the product. I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU BUY THIS, instead look for Pine Mountain incendiaries, they don't crumble and are 20 cents cheaper per brick, they can be purchased at WallyWorld. Old style quick snacks came 24 pieces in a box, they were thicker and burned longer and didn't spit out burning crumbs, this is the 'new and improved'…

Pros
  • practical item
Cons
  • negative impression

They are perfect if you have the right tools.

As some of the 1 star reviews say this isn't the easiest place to start, consider using a lighter. The nice thing is that when they start to work, they burn hotter than Hades. Although there is a small channel on one side to help them start with a match, a lighter or even a small butane/propane torch is the best way to start them. I used to use those long grill lighters but I burned them up too quickly. I now use a small propane line from Berzomatic, which is about $15 at Home Depot. It starts…

  • The packaging is ugly

Need an appetizer for these snacks

I have used lighters wrapped in wax paper which were great but seem to be discontinued.

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Don't really like it, everything is fine
