The back of the earrings holds large earrings securely in your ear. The regular little ones that come with earrings don't hold the earrings directly in your ear, but these larger ones are perfect for that.

Overall these are good basic sterling silver earring caps. They say they're big, but in fact they're just regular-sized substrate. Most of us don't pay much attention to millimeter measurements. It would be more helpful if the seller included a picture of the earring on the back next to a 1 carat or half carat stud. Something to compare. Still a good substrate, just not as big as I would like, but I'll keep and use them anyway.

NOT XL AS SAY! They are ridiculously small after claiming to be "XL". Due to such a gross distortion, I only buy Prime, at least it can be returned. They are the same size as all the useless little earrings but come with silver earrings. I have to purchase real XL backs separately to keep my earrings hanging straight and secure.
