Fun to Use - Clapboard Hammers

Like other Estwing products, this tool is dependable, well balanced and reasonably priced. The more I use it, the more I like it.

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Damaged

The Estwing E2H Carpenter's Ax is a great tool!

I liked the feel of the leather handle and the solid construction of my dad's Estwing hammer. This E2H hatchet has the same great Estwing qualities, plus a curved leather handle that feels just right when swinging. A highly durable forged steel tool with a leather handle makes this an heirloom quality tool to pass on to the next generation.

Pros
  • Hands Free
Cons
  • High Price

Brilliant. New favorite axe. Grind handle and oil Neatsfoot

This ax is amazing. I take axes and logs pretty seriously. I make log furniture and stuff like that, besides being a professional campfire enthusiast. This is an amazing axe. Nice miter cut, just needs a little touch up on my Arkansas stones. The best fix I made was to sand down the polyester coating on the handle and soak the leather in foot oil. No other feeling like a leather handle. Just unbelievable. I will cherish forever

Terrible craftsmanship

I've tried twice to get a quality tool to no avail. The lines at the tip of the ax were wrong, and both sides looked and felt different. I bought a hiking axe, a prospector's hammer and a clawed hammer that I was expecting (tourist ax twice). I bought these because I liked the old school leather handles and the polished steel look. I thought she was beautiful. I have a camper ax and a prospector's pickaxe hanging on my wall. I would be embarrassed to show it.

  • An absolute legend

Great ax! Wrong ad photo

This is a great hatchet! The American-made "full shank" grip is perfect, and when I encountered an unfamiliar, hard, weathered wood, I felt neither tired nor unduly shocked. Fits in my light, small, almost empty backpack without being too bulky or unbalanced when walking. The photos in the listings of this product and the rigger's ax are mixed up, the carpenter's ax is solid steel with blue on the handle only and the rigger's ax has blue paint on the neck. The rigger's ax is longer and has a…

Great hatchet! The US-made "full shank" handle is perfect, and chopping into an unfamiliar, hard, weathered wood I felt neither fatigue nor undue shock. The photos in the listings of this product and the rigger's ax are mixed up, the carpenter's ax is all steel with blue paint only on the handle and the rigger's neck is painted blue. Carpenter's Ax with Leather Handle:

Pros: Classic design, Proven endurance Cons: None. Best Use: Wood molding and framing work. My father had a leather-handled Estwing hatchet. I've always liked the design and the way it works. I needed a hammer and after looking around found the 1923 Estwing design was still in production. Of course I bought one and was so excited about the idea of owning something with a classic and time-tested design that I now have an almost complete set of leather-handled Estwing tools. You can no longer buy

Steel feels very good under a whetstone

Let me start by saying that I have used an Estwing hammer since I was 12 and it was older than me when I bought it in the 1990's. So I have a very positive attitude towards these products. This hatchet arrived in bubble wrap but the top edge of the blade was clearly in contact with something hard and concrete like as the top quarter was damaged by an inch and had a stone brown stain stuck to it. I assume someone dropped it on the hard floor. In terms of quality, steel feels very good under the…
