Keep track of your wire and connector colors

I bought these to replace the Turtle Beach headset. I had two main problems. I don't know if these issues were specific to this product or general. First, the colors of the wires are different from the colors of the Turtle Beach headset. I've made a lot of mistakes trying to swap which wire goes where. The second problem is that the wires are very small, especially multicolored ones. I have no idea if it's a brand or headphone cables in general.

It didn't work for us. :(

Followed other reviewers instructions to connect (thanks btw!) and at first there was sound in our headphones. And then I'm not sure what happened but the sound didn't work.. Used soldering irons and such. Maybe they don't match our newly purchased on-ear headphones? I feel bad for giving this item less than 3 stars. It could also be human error on our part. Instructions came physically in the packaging - would be amazing.

Pros
  • Audio cable
Cons
  • Only available in black

Luckily I tested them on a breadboard before soldering because the wire colors are not the modern CITA standard but the old OMTP standard. All this means that the green wire is connected to the third ring from the top and the black wire is connected to the bottom ring. For CITA compatibility you need to swap mic and ground; Green is ground and black is microphone. For OMTP, the colors are as expected. Check what standard your intended device uses and solder accordingly.

Pros
  • Accessories and consumables
Cons
  • For the old ones

A little over two years of regular use of "Recon 50X Over-the-Ear Gaming Headset" resulted in poor communication (wiggle the connector and/or the cable near the connector and the sound disappears and/or squeaks). Soldering tiny wires was PITB. Make sure we figured out which wire connects to which wire, which equates to PITB. Here is a text description of which wire to connect to which wire (also see photo). Recon GRN to RED jack (left end of audio jack/pin 1). Recon RED to WHT socket (rightโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Cables and Connections
Cons
  • Not the best

I fixed it! Works perfectly.

So my daughter broke the connector on my $70 gaming headset! I found this replacement part and since it doesn't need soldering I bought it. Here is step by step how I fixed it. Remember, I'm a nurse, not an electronics engineer. This was pretty easy considering the tiny wires you have to work with, so take your time. Don't try to fix it, if you're under 18, ask your parents for help. Assemble: -Lighter -Scissors -Small bowl of water (just in case) -Damp paper towel -3/32-3/64 (2mm-1mm) heatโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Stereo Cable
Cons
  • Very Expensive
