There are two rows of stitching on each side of the zipper and it would be great if they didn't zip through. As you can see on the "top" zipper, quite a bit of the second row didn't make it into the zipper, effectively causing the leather to tear at the perforation line. The bottom zip shows the result - we didn't even try to zip up and the leather tore along the stitching. As mentioned in other reviews, it had an odor that partially dissipated after some time in the sun.

I ordered a couple of Moroccan stools from Revain and figured that even if some of them smell like people have complained I can find others that don't smell. These poufs claim to be made from calf leather (and I have no reason to doubt that) so the slight smell is just that of leather, not the wild goat smell that some others have had. I am very happy with the result! This is a great way to repurpose old pillows, towels, and clothes. You can adjust the firmness depending on the filling. I started with 5 old pillows but they were too soft for my liking (you drown). I ended up using 3 pillows, 2 towels and different clothes. It can take a lot more than you think!
