I got it for my husband. He builds a fire in the wood stove in our basement. He wanted the air to be humidified so it wouldn't dry us out so much. He loves to.

Rust will appear after some use. I don't think it was flavorful. I use non-stop for the winter. I will clean and refill it in the spring. It's heavy and well made. definitely happy with it.

Works well as a humidifier over a wood stove. Looks good and the size is good. The only complaint is that it immediately rusted in the pot and all around the lid which splashed when filled with water.

As with all cast iron items, season before use. Doing this twice before use makes it even better. As many other reviews say, this is not really suitable for drinking water. The kettle works as described and definitely makes a difference. Add flavors to your water to make it even more enjoyable. When our stove has reached the desired temperature, there is enough water in the kettle for about 3 hours before it needs to be refilled. As with all pots/pans, only fill with hot water to avoid warping.
