Easy to install, easy to set up

Used a firestik ss204 mount to fit the gap in the back door of my truck. Works perfect. With some effort I managed to get the SWR down to around 1.2.

Pros
  • Happy so far
Cons
  • No instructions

Does not work in Portable Audio & Video

Package opened and sealed. The antenna was easily unpacked. I tried it anyway and couldn't get an SWR below 3.8 on channel 40 and 3.1 on channel 1. Back for the same antenna. I hope this is new.

Don't settle for second place

Purchased for use with CB Midland 1001LWX 40 Channel Mobile. Mounts to the 2014 Outback hood with an adjustable stainless steel Firestik SS274A antenna mount for the hood and trunk duct and a reinforced stainless steel Firestik SS-3H antenna spring. The setup was solid and worked really well, even before tweaking.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • No paint required

Best of the best

Fifth CB antenna I've ever had and by far the best. Easy to set up with an SWR meter. Great range on my jeep even with the spare tire 1/2 blocked. If you have a Jeep, this is by far the BEST of the BEST. I know I've used them all. Buy this and don't look back. Don't forget to get the SWR meter and cable from AMAZON and you're done. A good thing. I will for sure buy again.

WILL NOT WORK ON ALUMINUM BODY

Firestick will not work on a 2018 F150 aluminum truck. I called the manufacturer in Arizona and they said we had it sorted out because the aluminum body has no ground connection. Then why not put this information on the packaging to avoid problems that I and others have? I was told they make one that doesn't need a base coat.

Pros
  • is clear even for the old
Cons
  • . Negative exists

Excellent performance on portable AV

CB almost abandoned due to short range (1 mile) with a bunch of cheaper antennas. With this Firestik we have doubled/tripled the range in relatively difficult terrain with a pair of Bearcat 980's to 2-6 miles. There was a little more room for adjustment. Make sure you have a solid metal base and are outdoors to get accurate measurements.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Expensive

Watch out for the red plastic end!

Installed. Turned without a red cap and with a set screw. 1.2 - 1.3 over the entire range. Not bad. I then put on the red plastic end and tested again. Ha, the SWR values were 0.4-0.6 higher over the whole range. So I did everything all over again, adjusted and put the cap on. Got it back to the original 1.2 - 1.3 across the range. This is a real miracle! If you lose the cap, turn the antenna! Note: This antenna is on my Wrst75 Cobra Jeep. On my Dodge 3500 I drive a Stryker A10 and a President…

Not even close! for antennas

I bought this antenna to tune to the 10m band (28.300 to 29.700MHz). When I hooked it up to my FT-857D and tuned it in, it sounded like my tuner was printing out a stinky term paper! So here's the problem. Regular CB frequencies live in the 11 meter band (26.965 to 27.405 MHz) but this antenna doesn't even tune there. After delving deeper into the amateur side of HF and purchasing a RigExpert antenna analyzer, I found that this antenna resonates at around 26,300MHz. This means that being able…
