After reading the negative reviews I was a bit skeptical (I always like to read both) because it was about the noise factor. There are 2 sound levels and I find the two music options (Lullaby and Zen) too loud to sleep, nature sounds and white noise promote sleep. My son was switching from the aquarium we used in his crib and I needed something simple so he could turn on and run on battery power. That fits the bill! I love that you can switch from fireflies to stars with a big handy button that also turns it on. I'd like the same button that turns it on and toggles between them to also be able to turn it off, but for us that's not an impediment. There is a separate switch for this.
