I ordered these in a 7/8 for my baby and they were too big so I ordered a size down and I like them but I will go up anyway I will have a pair when she grows up and wears them because I love that they have elastic at the waist and I don't have to worry about my child struggling to unbutton his pants. I would say the thickness is just right, not too thick then my kid won't sweat too much or anything.
