Apparently the manufacturer read these reviews. The inserts into which the table legs are screwed are now supplied pre-inserted. No tools are required for assembly. Just twist everything together. They aren't very strong but I only use them as side tables in my bedroom and they each have a lamp which isn't heavy at all. All in all, this is a good deal for the money. BTW it was well packaged and the Formica plastic wasn't damaged or delaminated as some other reviews have noted.

The difference in quality between these tables and Ikea is the same as Ikea for the handcrafted Amish. The legs are made from injection molded toy plastic. They are definitely cheap. "You get what you pay for" is always a good rule of thumb when buying things. They only hold about 10 pounds which is normal for such a small cheap table. I coat them with polycryl to protect them from scratches and stains so maybe they feel a little less cheap. I had to order them twice because the first time they arrived scratched and with water stains. The company should have the best quality assurance but they will work until I'm ready to buy the best ones.

I wanted two all black tables for my basement and yes for some reason I overpaid $65 for cheap wood and plastic. I thought I could at least put them together quickly and easily and they would do the trick. Oh no. I rate them low for their smell. It's not necessarily bad. It's like a ghost. However, I am sensitive to aromatic smells. I was hoping that the smell would fade over time, but no.
